Created by HP, Easy Scan allows people who have Hewlett-Packard multifunction printers and scanners to manage their incoming documents. This is an easy to use utility that quickly scans documents and allows you to save them as PDF files.
You can save time by programming it to perform functions. One example of this is if you are scanning a multiple page report, rather than create ten one page documents, your printer can be set up to always create one file. Process multi-page documents at one time or just a one-page. The sophisticated software recognizes both text and automatically detects images in a document. The recent upgrades to the software bring improved stability. At the same time, performance has been optimized to ensure you get the highest-quality scanned documents.
The current version (1.10.0) of HP Easy Scan in the Mac App Store was released 1 year ago and was intended for macOS Big Sur (11.*). Contact HP and see if they plan to update this application further for Ventura. Until then, see if you can scan with Apple's Image Capture and generate your PDF in that manner.
4.4 Watts (ready), 24 Watts (scanning), 1.1 Watts (sleep), 0.1 Watts (auto-off), 0.1 Watts (off) * (Power requirements are based on the country/region where the printer is sold. Do not convert operating voltages. This will damage the printer and void the product warranty. Energy Star value typically based on measurement of 115V device.)
Scanner manufacturers often provide their own scanning software that usually works well with their scanners. However, this software is often limited in what it can do without a driver from the manufacturer installed on your system.
VueScan solves the problem of Image Capture, vendor software, and free software. It works with every scanner under Windows, Linux and macOS. We reverse engineer drivers so you can keep using your scanner without having to buy new software every time a new model comes out.
The first step is to identify the most important scanner models and reverse engineer how the driver works with the original software. We do this by listening to customer requests to see which models we need to prioritize. We also identify which scanners are sold the most and which ones are being searched for the most.
The next step is to use the software the comes with the scanner on an older operating system. We listen to how the software communicates with the scanner and replicate the protocol within our software. This gives us a deep understanding of how the scanner produces images, and allows us to create a VueScan driver that captures all of this information.
My scanner, though perfectly good mechanically, had been orphaned heading into Windows 7. VueScan brought it back into use, and the new version for Windows 10 carried that on. The application is excellent.
Edit: While the app now launches, it still won't let me scan. Found this -driver-framework-broken-in-catalina-10-15-7.2262865/post-29100622 saying that the certificate from HP has been revoked, and we're SOL until HP fixes it.
Cordialmente,
We have printing and scanning issues in Catalina. When anyone prints it will work and then lock up the printer and you can't print again or even get to the web server. I have left the page up and had one of them print and then watch it go down. Only temp fix is to reboot. Over the past month HP had updates 3 different drivers. All have done the same thing. Switching to airprint has done the same thing to. Print over IP same as well. We reset the printing subsystem which also didn't help.
You can easily scan your whole computer with this amazing tool provided by HP. The best thing is you can download and install the HP Easy Scan PC tool on any branded Desktop or Laptop computers. You can download it on any Asus, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, or even on Apple Macbooks and iMac computers.
I downloaded HP Easy Scan to my new Windows Pro and once the download completed and the App opened, I went to devices on my computer and clicked on my office 'HP OfficeJet Pro 8600' Icon -- immediately my computer started downloading a new print driver file. Once completed, a document that I had previously placed on my printer started being scanned. The Easy Scan App reappeared and when the scan completed and displayed in the App, I clicked on "Send" which opened a save window where I selected a Folder for storing all future scans. Delighted, I stacked several documents on my printers from feed and each document was scanned. When completed and I clicked on Save. I went to my computer' scan folder and there each document had been saved to a separate jpeg. Thanks HP for a great, AND FREE, scan App. It will save me a lot of work back when I used to scan to a USB drive, switch it to my computer, and search HP_Scan directory and hope my document appeared. This is a productivity time saver! Kudos !!
Despite being able to connect wirelessly to my LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw, and print and do single side scans from HP Smart on my iPhone and my Windows, HP Easy Smart cannot find my printer, even after all of the reset and driver uninstall/reinstall directions provided. I've encountered this on Windows OS Catalina and now Monterey (OS's 11 and 12). It supposedly has a function to do duplex scanning which I want to be able to use, and was a feature availabe on HP Deskjet printers in years past. Judging by the number of 1-star reviews of this app, I'm far from alone. Please HP, update this app to make it work the way it's advertised to. I spent a good deal of money on my multi-function printer on reputation for good quality prints and scans (with supposedly fully functioning software), and while it works well as I've used it in print jobs and scans from HP Smart, I believe having this Easy Scan app working properly is a legitimate expectation for the price I paid to buy the device and have it work as it's supposed to be able to.Is the alternative to eventually phase out Easy Scan and build all of that functionality into HP Smart for both Windows and iOS?
I bought a 27 inch Windows 2019 to replace my 2010 which couldn't be upgraded to the current PC. I just did the Microsoft transfer to the new computer and "HP scan" program worked but it was erratic. Got rid of that program, and loaded this "HP Easy Scan" and it works great with my several years old HP OJ Pro 8600 Plus. My only complaint is it didn't let me hook up to my bought and paid for OCR program. This "HP Easy Scan" program does OCR and it does it fairly well, but I don't think it does as well as my dedicated OCR program. I don't know where the OCR is done, and yes, i could scan to image then use my OCR program. But it would be nice if this could call up and directly feed the scan to my OCR program. I'll go ahead and give it 5 stars because it is quite a bit better than my former "HP Scan" - looks almost the same but is more configurable, and it works on my new computer and OS. I'm using PC Catalina.
If you have issues with not finding the scanner, I suggest removing previous scanner from the system preferences. Then add the scanner again. If it says that the file has malware, click on the Show in Finder, and remove the HP folder completely. Try adding the printer/scanner again, it should ask to download and install the latest version. Go ahead download it. Once it completes, select the printer. Look for the Name, Location, and Use dropdown. On the Use dropdown, do not use the default AirPrint, instead select the name of the printer/scanner. Add it. Go back to HP Easy Scan and select the scanner. The scanner should be working now.If that doesn't work, best bet is connecting the USB. Its quite a hassle but at least it works. My only assumption is that the app doesn't support the AirPrint driver and only a matter of time until the app is phased out to HP Smart. That is a complete mess itself.
HP what are you thinking? Fire your software engineers and get some new ones. It wouldn't hurt to hire a little tech support either.I have been using three 8600 all-in-one printers for several years that I really do like. Your intitial software install was a nightmare, but once I figured out the bugs I have enjoyed using it. Now look what you've done! You ruined a perfectly decent product. This should not be called Easy Scan. It should be called Clunky Scan, or Wretched Scan! You removed all of the versatility features from Scan 3 plus you added additional clunky steps to every single process that used to be easy and made every one more difficult! And you took away many of the features.Until now HP has been my "go-to" printer/scanner. I have owned many officejets and laserjets. However, I am currently looking for replacement all-in-one office machines from alternat companies that have actually working software. Fix this crap and I will happily return to HP.
Big Sur may not work well with outdated drivers for HP printers and scanners. If you're unable to print or you receive a message saying that HP software will damage your computer, you'll need to update your drivers.
In some cases, such as with the operating system update to Mac OS X Yosemite, there was a known issue with many printer/scanner devices, and users cannot scan after the update. This issue impacted scanners from all major manufacturers, including HP, Canon, Epson, and Lexmark.
If you know everything is connected and has power, there are more advanced troubleshooting steps that you can take. Follow these instructions in order, and stop at any point if the scanner starts working again. 2b1af7f3a8
